Luxury is not just a price tag. It’s about beauty, experiences and moments that you’ll hold onto forever… and at LUX* Belle Mare and LUX* Grand Gaube in Mauritius, you’ll do just that, and more. There are beach resorts and then there’s LUX*. LUX* Belle Mare is situated on the east coast of Mauritius, in Belle Mare, roughly an hour’s drive from the airport. The resort is set on the island’s widest stretch of beach and, in my opinion, home to one of the most beautiful pearly white beaches I have ever seen. Driving up to the entrance of LUX* Belle Mare, you are immediately overwhelmed by the beauty surrounding it, and enveloped into an experience that plucks you from your everyday life and drops you into a world that demands you stop and take a moment. We were escorted to our beach-view junior suite upon arrival, and were blown…

It’s that time of year again, and most of us (okay, well we do) tend to clear out and tidy up our homes around the end of the year, getting rid of unwanted items, and also doing a bit of home decorating too. So when we caught up with @home’s trend specialist and product developer, Louise Vorster to find out more about what they have on offer, and what the international décor trend’s and looks are – we were delighted to see that the fresh green and natural trend is staying with us in to next year – as well as all our fave shimmery metallic items too. Mirroring the leading homeware retailer’s passion for all things functional and innovative @home’s philosophy is foundational to this year’s Christmas catalogue… Says Louise “@home offers inspiring on-trend products across a range of categories, and with the festive season in close sight, our…

Welcome to The Marabi Club where superb food and drink blend together with the best in live jazz performances. Inspired by the penny-whistle Marabi clubs of the 1920’s which were formed in the wake of one of the world’s richest gold rushes, in Johannesburg. It was a lifestyle prompted by the need to escape the hardships of the working week and was defined by illegal shebeens, where fierce talk of politics was accompanied by the equally disruptive soundtrack of jazz. Today The Marabi Club is tucked into the basement of Hallmark House in Maboneng, under a hotel and is characterised literally by a hole in the wall, through which one steps in to a world of magic. Marabi is only open Wednesday to Saturday evenings until the early morning, and the experience is like nothing you have ever seen or experienced before. Order an incredibly potent ‘Skillachi” house cocktail and…

The official launch of Makro’s 2018 Festive Liquor Catalogue was a sight to behold, as the well known local brand hosted an upmarket and exclusive event in Sandton last week, and it is just in time for the festive season, too. The catalogue features a range of top-notch premium liquor – one of the most desired items being a 40-year-old Balvenie single malt from Speyside in Scotland, stylishly presented in a distinctive wooden box, which won Gold Outstanding at the 2018 International Wine and Spirit Competition, and Gold at the previous three years’ competitions. The event was invite-only event and well attended by celebrities, media, liquor connoisseurs and business leaders. Makro, which is part of the Massmart group, operates under a low cost/low margin philosophy which enables high volume distribution of merchandise at competitive prices for personal and commercial purchasers, and their vast purchasing power makes them one of the…

Terry first arrived on our screens in 2005 as the lead female role in the acclaimed Oscar-winning feature film Tsotsi and has since then worked tirelessly on a number of projects that share not only great stories, but also inspirational messages – with the promise of many more to come. We caught up with Terry to find out more about her… SM: Terry, what are you currently working on? TP: I am currently in production for my next feature film. Epicure is the restaurant name that is on everyone’s lips, and it’s no secret as to why. The Belgian-Burundian Chef has made a name for himself in the restaurant industry, and we were excited to pay him a visit. Located in Central Square in Morningside, Épicure is a unique blend of Pan-African chic and the unique menu features some creatively named dishes such as Taste of Tangier, Perfect Pepe, Hunters Reward, and the Rolex (a tasty beef curry wrap with a Ugandan twist.) Épicure in itself is an adventure from a décor perspective. Beautifully appointed booth’s and tables with low hanging woven grass lamps, beautiful blue suede fabric, and dark wood with leather chairs – its an interesting mix, but together the entire collection works so well together that to remove anything would be a travesty to the look and feel. The Afri-tapas menu (or Share-Share as it is called)…
